ETX girl in coma after fatal accident
News

KILGORE, TX (KLTV)- An East Texas girl involved in an horrific car wreck the day after her 18th birthday, is now in a coma.

Halie Moody was injured Saturday off FM 2767, near Kilgore.

Just a few weeks after high school graduation, Halie Moody is now in a coma.

"It could be weeks, it could be months, it's a waiting game right now. We've seen some things that are encouraging, but that doesn't mean everyday will be like that, just baby steps for us right now," said Halie's brother, Chris Moody.

Chris Moody says Halie has moved her fingers a few times, and she has even opened up her eyes a little.

"Anything, whether it's her heart rate going up or her squeezing my hand, I take that as comfort in knowing she can hear me and she knows we're there for her," said Grady Woodfin, Halie's best friend.

"She's one of those people that are genuinely a sweet person, she walks into a room and the whole room lights up, that's just the kind of person she is," said Woodfin.

The night before the wreck, Halie celebrated her 18th birthday by getting a tattoo that represents her motto in life: "Let it Be."

"Here she was the night before telling me she loved me and got out of the car and went inside, and then the next day, we're here now. Everything happens for a reason, but what's the reason for this one, you know?" said Woodfin.

Friends and family are trying to stay strong for Halie while they wait for her to come out of the coma. While they wait in the hospital, they spend their time making bracelets for her and then selling them on Facebook.

"They all say different things - this one says Team Halie, this one says HKM which are her initials," said Woodfin.

It's all in an effort to bring prayers and support for Halie.

The Moody family has set up two bank accounts to help fund Halie's stay while she's in the ICU.

One is at the First National Bank of Hughes Springs in Liberty City, and the second through Austin State Bank, at any location. Just mention the "Care of Halie Moody" fund.

A second vehicle was involved in the accident. Lloyd Webster, 54, of Minden was pronounced dead at the scene.
